Fourty Years of Believing in a Dream

People often see the finished product.

They see happy Tamarukes, families sharing photographs of their companions, assistance dogs changing lives, and a breed that has earned a reputation for temperament, predictability and welfare.

What they don't see is the forty-year journey that made it possible.

Developing a true breed is not something that happens overnight.

It requires generations of considered selection, an understanding of genetics, meticulous record keeping, health screening, behavioural assessment, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of every dog.

For us, it became a life's work.

When we began, many of the practices we considered essential were not widely understood.

We invested in health testing, structured breeding programs, documentation and management systems because we believed they were the right thing to do—not because they were fashionable or expected.

Along the way, there were many who questioned what we were trying to achieve. Some openly dismissed the concept of developing the Tamaruke Breed.

Others criticised without understanding the science behind genetics or the years of disciplined selection required to create consistency.

It wasn't always easy.

There were times when it would have been far easier to walk away than to continue.

Instead, we stayed focused on our purpose.

Over time, our reputation wasn't built through advertising or headlines.

It was built one family, one puppy and one relationship at a time. Respect is never given—it is earned through consistency, integrity and a willingness to stand by your principles, even when they are misunderstood.

Then came one of the greatest challenges of all.

We became victims of embezzlement, a devastating experience that threatened everything we had worked so hard to build.

Recovering from that required determination, resilience and more than a little faith.

Just as we found our footing again, the economy shifted.

Like so many small Australian businesses, we found ourselves facing another challenge that had nothing to do with the quality of our work, yet affected every part of our future.

Once again, we fought to survive.

The journey has taught us that resilience isn't about never falling. I

t's about choosing to stand up every time life knocks you down.

Today, I remain incredibly proud of what has been achieved.

Not because of recognition, but because the Tamaruke represents decades of dedication to ethical breed development, health, temperament and responsible management. It represents countless hours of learning, adapting and striving to do better.

It also represents the many families who have welcomed a Tamaruke into their lives and become part of our extended community.

Their trust has carried us through the hardest times.

We are still here.

Still learning.

Still striving.

Still believing in the vision that began more than fourty years ago.

The road has never been easy, and perhaps it never will be. But if our journey has taught us anything, it is that perseverance, integrity and purpose are stronger than criticism, stronger than setbacks, and stronger than circumstances.
